Description
Summary:Although in the historiography international it is a common statement that the House of Habsburg divided in two branches in the 16th century, in the last two decades we could read more and more about the close cooperation in the diplomacy, policy and common defense between Madrid and Vienna. The unity of the dynasty during the 16th and 17th centuries is much more evident from the juridical aspect. The correlation between the order of succession of the Spanish Monarchy the policy of marriage of the spanish Habsburgs, the contracts of marriages and the last wills of the spanish monarchs (Carlos V, Felipe II, Felipe III, Felipe IV) in favor of the archdukes in case of the extinction of their male line give us enough evidence about that unity. Upon these facts we can note a dynasty much more united than divided.
